In times such as these, in the richest country in the world, with a reported 17 trillion dollars in tariff money rolling in, who ever thought we’d have to worry about...FOOD?! The current administration, in refusing to fund SNAP benefits, is inhuman and amoral. Over 1.1 million people in Massachusetts depend on these monthly benefits and are now left without the resources to provide for their families as even Food Banks are stretched to their limits.
Please join us as we gather to increase awareness of food insecurity within our community. Even before the disruption of SNAP benefits, Salem has had members who fall between the cracks and often go hungry. NOW is the time to gather in community, to recognize and support those within our community, who lack the most basic of needs: Food. We will have music, speakers, and join hands for a moment of silence and solidarity. We welcome you to join us. To quote Project Bread: "Hunger is not a choice. But inaction is."
This event is organized by Salem's Call, a pro-Democracy group organizing weekly rallies in Salem, MA, and other progressive activities by working with 50501, No Kings, Hands Off, ACLU & others.
