FOUR ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE TODAY
It's easy to feel helpless when we hear news like this. Its hard to know what to think, let alone what to do. Below you will find information on 4 online actions you can take to protect immigrant rights RIGHT NOW. If you are so inclined, click one, or all, of the actions below. Feel free to share them with those you know. Singlely, our efforts are like pebbles in a pond. Collectively, together, we can make a wave.
Now, more than ever, we need Governor Healey to take action to defend immigrants across the Commonwealth from the escalating state sanctioned violence. LUCE Immigration Justice Network of Massachusetts is calling on our movement partners, allies, and supporters to join our demands to Governor Healey. They are advocating for her to support such initiatives as the Dignity Not Deportations Act, and allowing immigration court appearances to be online (think:Zoom) instead of in person. Read more, and consider signing the petition at the link below.
MIRA, the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy group, is sponsoring an online petition to pledge to protect the rights of immigrants. All individuals, regardless of immigration status, deserve dignity, safety, and equal protection under the law. Yet too many in our immigrant communities face discrimination, exploitation, and fear due to unjust policies and systemic barriers. By signing this petition, you can pledge to stand in solidarity with immigrant communities and demand policies that uphold human rights, ensure equal access to resources, and foster a future where all individuals—regardless of status—can live free from injustice. Here, you can further explore ways in which you can help out.
The new federal administration will use every tool available to deport members of our immigrant communities, including our police and courts. This misuse of public safety resources drives a wedge between immigrant communities and the public institutions that protect and serve them. That’s why the Safe Communities Act has earned the support of police chiefs and district attorneys across the state, as well as groups like MIRA, and the League of Women's Voters.
A fundraiser has been set up to support the families of the men taken by ICE. If you are so inclined, please contribute to their support.
Many thanks to Marblehead Allaince for Democracy for updating us on this matter as events develop. It appears we need a reaction protocol for all our groups going forward as more and more incidents like these occur in all of our cities and towns. Stay tuned for further info.
